Sleep Apnea Treatment

Sleep apnea is a disorder in which your airways become blocked or partially blocked when you sleep. The airways in your nose, mouth, or throat can become blocked if your throat muscles or tongue relax too much during sleep. Because your airways are blocked during sleep, you may not realize that you have sleep apnea. However, your partner may notice that you do some of the following while you sleep:

  • Stop breathing
  • Snore loudly
  • Gasp or choke
  • Toss and turn

Dr. Samia Rageb may treat sleep apnea if you notice any of the following:

  • Not feeling rested after sleep
  • Feeling tired during the day
  • Waking with a headache

Our dentist provides Silent Nite®, an oral device, to treat sleep apnea. Silent Nite is worn at night to move the lower jaw forward. The Silent Nite has S-shaped connectors that are attached to trays for your upper and lower teeth. The inside layer of the trays are soft and the outer layer is hard and durable. This device is now available in blue, green, and pink. These hues make the appliance easier to locate when it is out of the mouth.
