Developing A Good Oral Care Routine

Developing a good oral routine can help you maintain strong, healthy teeth for the rest of your life.

Here at Park View Smiles, Dr. Samia Hempel can help you with any dentistry needs so you can learn the best ways to care for your teeth. Read on to learn more.

Brush Your Teeth

By now, most of us know that brushing your teeth at least two times a day is essential to good oral health. Our mouths are a breeding ground for bacteria. That's why it's important to eliminate food and bacteria from our tooth enamel. If we don't brush our teeth at least twice a day, we are at risk for tooth decay, cavities and gum disease. All of these dental issues lead to pain and tooth loss. Talk with Dr. Hempel to learn proper brushing techniques.

Floss Your Teeth

Some people may diligently brush their teeth at least two times a day, but they forget all about flossing. Dental floss gets rid of the bacteria and food particles that the toothbrush can't reach. Using dental floss to remove debris from in between your teeth helps to prevent cavities from forming there.

Avoid Using Tobacco Products

Smoking tobacco causes tooth decay, tooth discoloration, bad breath, and a host of other dental problems. It can even cause oral cancer. Snuff and chewing tobacco damage your oral health as well. If you use tobacco, make it your goal to quit. Doing so can save your teeth as well as your life.

Visit Your Dentist

While taking care of your teeth at home is an important part of good oral care, visiting your dentist is essential as well. You should visit your dentist at least every six months for dental checkups, exams, and teeth cleanings. This allows the dentist to check for plaque and tartar buildup, cavities, and gum disease. They can prevent or treat dental issues before they grow worse.
